About The Position

This position is responsible for the continued administration, supervision and monitoring of the adherence of the onsite laboratory operations to the Quality Management System and in conformance with ISO/IEC 17025 and with the policies and procedures set up by NAM Minerals Management. This position provides guidance, advises and assists the laboratory on their practices with respect to the requirements of the quality management system and ISO/IEC 17025. Works with the lab personnel to continuously improve lab products and services. Mains appropriate documentation control (electronically and hardcopy). Reports, monitors and maintains Proficiency testing and Round Robin internal and external programs applicable to site testing capabilities. Approves and maintains site QMS documentation with respect to accuracy, distribution and retention. Initiates and maintains CAPA program to ensure continuous improvement. Directs non-conformance investigations. Follows up and closes CAPAs. Liaises with Operations Efficiency and Quality Director, Onsite Operations Director, Operations Manager, and Client Services to report CAPAs with respect to laboratory performance in response to customer complaints, claims and internal non-conformances. Under the direction of the Operations Efficiency and Quality Director, performs monthly internal technical and SLIM audits and provides the necessary follow up. Extracts data from CCLAS regularly for review, repeat reports, charts and addresses any concerns via CAPA. Monitors and reviews LIMS performance modules with respect to trends and biases as well as verification processes within the laboratory operation. Performs and maintains method validation and/or verification for all existing site methods Mains site distribution and sign offs for all NAM and Global policies, procedures, work instructions and templates for use applicable to the site processes Prepares monthly internal and external quality reports for each site. Prevents release of any report, Certificate of Analysis, or information to the customer when a deficiency is identified during a technical audit. Ensures major technical non-conformances are brought to the attention of the Operations Efficiency and Quality Director and Regional Business Manager. Schedules and enrolls employees in training programs, including health and safety training, monitors and maintains records. May work as a backup in designated areas in the absence of Operations Efficiency and Quality Director. May work on special projects as assigned by the Operations Efficiency and Quality Director and/or Operations Manager. Able to travel to multiple sites in Canada and USA for audits.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a BSc degree (or equivalent) is required.
  • 3 - 5 years previous experience in laboratory and/or minerals operations is required.
  • Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Must be accountable, self-motivated; provide team leadership and motivation towards a common goal.
  • Must be creative, innovative and task orientated.
  • Has knowledge of international standards and specifications used by the minerals industry.
  • Able to work with technical, sales and management staff.
  • Proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint, Outlook,).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Quality Control related role is preferred
  • Knowledge of another language besides English (French) is an asset.
