About The Position

This position is responsible for 1) actively supporting the quality and continuous improvement efforts for the BASF Corporation Dispersions Plant in Chattanooga, TN within the scope of the BASF Quality Policy and ISO 9001 Quality Management System, 2) leading the site’s behavior-based safety program (Exposure Reduction Process (ERP) program), and 3) supporting the continuous improvement of lab and plant processes through QA/QC activities and meet and/or exceed customer expectations.As a Quality/CI Specialist, you create chemistry by... 

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Chemistry or Engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering.
  • 1+ years of experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint required. SAP and statistical program skills are preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude skills.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision, primarily guided by specific assignment objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills working, influencing, and collaborating successfully with other functions (Process Technicians, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering).
  • Experience working with EHS, plant management, quality, and corporate leadership.
  • Strong awareness of and focus on behavior-based safety (Exposure Reduction Process).
  • Strong personal commitment to lifelong learning and continuous improvement.
  • Yellow Belt Certification, or working toward completion within 1 year in position.
  • Green Belt Certification, or working toward completion within 2 years in position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the internal Non-Conformance Management program (NCM), working with Operations, Supply Chain, and other departments to reduce customer risk and improve and optimize site quality performance.
  • Investigate internal Non-Conformances with Operations and other teams via Root Cause Analysis tools; then drive the implementation and ensure the effectiveness of Corrective Actions to address quality risks.
  • Maintain the NCM database within SAP, communicate NCM status with site teams via periodic meetings, and develop reports for quality KPIs (ex: First Time Quality).
  • Lead regular site Quality and Compliance Operations Committee (QCOC) meetings with cross-functional teams to drive the overall improvement of site quality performance.
  • Support the QCI Manager with internal and external ISO9001 audits, reviewing and updating lab procedures and managing action items and timelines.
  • Support lab test method reviews and drive laboratory method development in collaboration with Technology support.
  • Lead or assist with site quality initiatives, including LIMS management, procedure harmonization, and data automation.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects using Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodology to analyze data, support process stability and reliability, optimize process performance, and increase quality sustainability.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement workshops, kaizen events, and Yellow Belt trainings; champion Yellow Belt candidates in completing projects.
  • Support the QCI Manager in driving successful LSS project sustainability and implementation of the Operational Excellence strategy.
  • Drive digitalization efforts in Quality, Operations, Maintenance, and EHS site areas.
  • Drive site EHS initiatives as a member of site leadership.
  • Provide operational support and encourage continuous improvement.
  • Support the Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) at the site by completing action items, managing updates, and promoting a safe working environment.
