About The Position

This role helps to foster self-reliance, care for the poor and the needy, and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members be economically and emotionally self-reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items, helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church. Quality Assurance Technologists and Specialists are responsible for developing, implementing, training on, and monitoring food safety prerequisite programs, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Food Defense Plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) for supply chain operations which include: ranches, farms, orchards, gardens, canneries, processing plants, storage facilities, warehouses, transportation fleet, and food distribution outlets. Quality Assurance Technologists and Specialists ensure that food safety programs are effective and comply with government regulations and internal food safety policies. They interact in a professional manner with regulatory personnel and serve as a liaison between operation managers and the regulatory entity. They assist the operation manager(s) in developing a culture of food safety awareness and commitment, and they serve as a technical resource for food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, and regulatory requirements. Positions are located at both the plant level and at the supply chain level within the Welfare Services Quality Assurance laboratory. Assignments will likely rotate over time to ensure adequate cross-training and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, implementing, and training on food safety prerequisite programs.
  • Monitoring Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
  • Conducting Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) assessments.
  • Creating and maintaining Food Defense Plans.
  • Establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
  • Ensuring compliance with government regulations and internal food safety policies.
  • Interacting with regulatory personnel in a professional manner.
  • Serving as a liaison between operation managers and regulatory entities.
  • Assisting operation managers in developing a culture of food safety awareness.
  • Providing technical resources for food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
