About the position

The Quality Assurance RN - Patient Safety Officer at Providence St. Joseph Health is responsible for ensuring patient safety by supporting the Swedish patient safety team and the Culture of Safety Initiative. This role involves evaluating variance reports, conducting root cause analyses, and leading quality and safety meetings to guide strategic planning for quality and safety initiatives. The position emphasizes a patient-focused approach and aims to empower caregivers in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Swedish patient safety team and Culture of Safety Initiative.
  • Evaluate variance reports and perform root cause analysis for serious safety events.
  • Lead quality and safety meetings throughout the organization.
  • Review and analyze safety trends to guide strategic planning for quality initiatives.
  • Identify high-risk areas through various data sources including RCA and incident reports.
  • Conduct interviews with healthcare professionals to gather case-specific details.
  • Develop support systems for staff involved in unanticipated events.
  • Create formal documentation of adverse and sentinel events.
  • Facilitate RCA Analysis Teams and ensure accountability for process improvements.
  • Communicate with senior leaders regarding reportable adverse events.
  • Manage event reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Promote integration of safety programs with other departments.
  • Participate in organizational planning and policy making with a focus on risk reduction.
  • Collaborate on service recovery following adverse events.
  • Develop educational programs related to RCA action plans.
  • Educate staff and physicians on the RCA process and compliance with policies.
  • Create teaching materials from actual events for staff and medical staff training.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
  • Experience in quality assurance, patient safety, or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating safety trends and variance reports.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals and senior leaders.
  • Ability to lead meetings and facilitate discussions on quality and safety.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in Patient Safety or Quality Improvement.
  • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations and compliance standards.
