About The Position

The Quality Assurance Line Technician serves as a front-line steward of product quality and waste prevention, partnering closely with Production to ensure food safety, quality, and compliance are established and accomplished in every process, every day. The Quality Assurance (QA) Line Technician is responsible for monitoring and verifying product quality and food safety standards throughout production operations. This role ensures compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications by performing inspections, tests, and documentation on the production line. The QA Line Technician works closely with production staff to prevent, identify, report, and help correct any quality or safety issues, supporting continuous improvement and maintaining a diligent, safe, clean, and compliant work environment. This role requires strong judgment, calm communication, stick-to-it-iveness, and the confidence to act when standards are not being met. The QA Line Technician is an active contributor to safe, diligent, and continuously improving operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Strong attention to detail with practical, real-world judgment
  • Ability to communicate firmly, clearly, timely, and respectfully
  • Comfortable making decisions and standing behind food safety standards
  • Basic computer, documentation, math, and data entry skills
  • Willingness to learn and complete required certifications, including Better Process Control School
  • Hands-on role requiring standing, walking, and light lifting throughout the shift
  • Shift flexibility required, including extended hours during peak production periods

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of experience in food manufacturing, quality, or production preferred
  • Familiarity with GMPs, HACCP, Preventive Controls, BRC (or SQF), or food safety systems strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with low-acid and acidified canned foods regulations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and verify food safety and quality standards throughout production, including weights, temperatures, coding, seams, sanitation readiness, packaging condition, material use, batch formulation, and process controls.
  • Perform required inspections, tests, and verifications accurately and consistently, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain authority and responsibility to stop production when specifications are not met, and support corrective actions to restore compliant operations.
  • Reinforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) through daily observation, documentation, and clear communication on the production floor.
  • Cross-train to and/or perform production line set up tasks including but not limited to: can seam evaluation, inkjet set up, and equipment set up.
  • Identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities to improve yield, reduce waste, and strengthen first-pass quality.
  • Implement solutions to first pass quality and waste with the support of organizational leaders.
  • Support proactive quality “scouting” by anticipating risks tied to upcoming production schedules and process changes.
  • Lead other team members through those risks to ensure high quality outcomes in production.
  • Assist Production and FSQA leadership with approved process adjustments, equipment verification, and formulation checks that improve consistency and control.
  • Contribute ideas, observations, and solutions that help the organization operate more smoothly, safely, and efficiently over time.
  • Complete and maintain accurate, timely, and audit-ready documentation for all assigned quality and food safety checks.
  • Verify critical control points and regulatory requirements in accordance with FDA, USDA, and internal food safety programs.
  • Support internal and external audits by demonstrating process knowledge, documentation discipline, and professional engagement.
  • Escalate and document deviations promptly, ensuring corrective actions are effective and sustained.
  • Work side-by-side with Production, Maintenance, and FSQA teams to resolve quality and food safety issues at the source.
  • Communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully when issues arise—focused on solutions, not blame.
  • Serve as a trusted quality presence on the floor, helping teams understand why standards matter, not just what they are.
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and teamwork-driven approach, even during high-pressure or time-sensitive situations.
  • Support quality program, hold prevention, and waste reduction initiatives as directed by Quality team leadership.
