The position is responsible for the testing, sampling, measuring, and inspection of raw materials, machined parts, final products, and processes to ensure quality and compliance with specifications. The inspector will perform detailed dimensional evaluations of raw materials, machined components, and finished products to determine their conformance to established inspection criteria and procedures. This role requires timely and accurate documentation of inspection results, whether they indicate acceptability or non-conformance, following documented procedures. The inspector will work from blueprints, diagrams, and customer specifications, which may require some independent judgment to interpret general information provided. In addition to inspections, the inspector will effectively utilize various measurement devices, including micrometers, calipers, and other general inspection equipment. Periodic calibration of precision measuring equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges, will be necessary, using gauge blocks or other suitable tools that are traceable to NIST standards. The inspector will also perform and document first article inspections in accordance with AS9102 requirements and conduct visual cosmetic inspections, often using magnification aids or microscopes. In cases where standard checking equipment is unavailable, the inspector may need to devise special inspection setups and tools. Collaboration with the Quality Assurance supervisor and management personnel is essential for the disposition of questionable materials. The inspector must ensure that quarantined or rejected materials are properly identified, segregated, and disposed of. Providing timely, accurate, and friendly service to all internal and external customers is a key aspect of this role. The inspector is expected to maintain a clean and orderly work area and equipment, comply with all quality requirements, and contribute to the continuous improvement of MacKay's quality management system. Participation in department and company goals is encouraged, along with a proactive approach to learning and sharing knowledge and skills. Punctual attendance is required, and the inspector must treat others with respect and maintain a professional attitude while being honest in all dealings. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
