About The Position

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with a technical support center in South East Asia and East Africa, that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world. We are looking for a Quality Assurance Inspector to support the Montgomery Locks and Dam project. As a certified Quality Assurance Inspector (QAI), you will perform on-site inspection, verification testing, and oversight of Hydraulic Steel Structures (HSS) fabrication. In this role, you will ensure all fabrication activities comply with contract drawings and specifications, produce daily QA reports, and perform site visits to fabrication shops as needed. This position is contingent upon the award of the contract with the proposal submission due on January 8, 2026.

Requirements

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • SSPC-PCI Level 2 or NACE CIP Level 2 certification for coatings inspection.
  • NDT personnel qualified to ANSI/ASNT CP-189 NDT Level II or III.
  • Strong knowledge of welding procedures, fabrication processes, and protective coating applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail, report writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to multiple fabrication sites as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in QA for steel fabrication or construction is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive welding inspections, including reviewing Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), verifying welder qualifications, monitoring fabrication and welding. operations, and witnessing Nondestructive Evaluation (NDT) testing.
  • Perform protective coating inspections, verifying surface preparation, monitoring coating application, and witnessing quality control tests.
  • Ensure all fabrication and welding activities conform to project drawings and specifications.
  • Document daily inspection and QA activities in detailed reports.
  • Travel to fabrication sites as necessary (locations may include Florida, Washington, and Alabama).
  • Communicate findings and collaborate with project engineers and contractors to address any quality concerns.
