About The Position

The Quality Assurance (QA) Clinician plays a key role within the Clinical leadership team, supporting PPNorCal’s commitment to delivering high-quality clinical care. This position primarily collaborates with the Clinical Quality Assurance team and the Sr. Director of Clinical Quality Assurance to conduct medical record audits and determine corrective actions, review and evaluate medical incident reports, and assess the organization’s medical systems and processes to ensure compliance and continuous improvement (e.g., participate in the PPNorCal routine site visit audit). Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Clinical Quality Assurance, Director of Clinician Training and Clinical Development, and the Medical Director, and in partnership with the Director of Clinical Practice, the Quality Assurance Clinician provides essential support and maintenance of Epic templates, workflows, and helpful documentation tools such as job aids and training resources related to the OCHIN Epic system. The Quality Assurance (QA) Clinician dedicates 24 hours of weekly work to project based quality assurance and Epic documentation administrative activities, often working independently and with remotely.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of accredited Advanced Practice Clinician program.
  • Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge/experience with Electronic Health Records/Electronic Practice Management systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point) highly desirable.
  • Current California NP, PA, CNM or other Advanced Practice Clinician license.
  • Current California BRN Furnishing Number (if NP or CNM).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Must have reliable automobile transportation and a valid California Driver's License and insurance.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Complies with PPNorCal Medical Standards and Guidelines to ensure safe, evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Delivers all responsibilities with professionalism and a patient-centered approach, in alignment with PPFA’s Manual of Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&Gs), PPNorCal policies and procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Contributes to the delivery of high-quality health care by actively engaging in quality assurance and medical risk management initiatives, ensuring compliance with PPFA, Title X, state licensing requirements, CLIA, and OSHA standards.
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Epic to support clinical audit performance, medical incident tracking, report writing, and professional presentations.
  • Fosters a culture where clinical quality and safety are shared responsibilities, emphasizing system-focused performance improvement and accountability without blame.
  • Collaborates with the Sr. Director of Clinical Quality Assurance to oversee the Clinical Quality Improvement Program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Clinical Quality Assurance, executes the annual audit schedule in accordance with PPFA and Title X requirements.
  • Assists with data collection and analysis to support audit findings.
  • Identifies areas of clinical risk and recommends mitigation strategies.
  • Supports health centers in developing and implementing corrective action plans, ensuring measurable improvements.
  • Presents audit results, corrective actions, and progress updates to the Clinical Quality Assurance Team.
  • Collaborates with program directors and managers to enhance the quality and effectiveness of clinical programs.
  • Participates in Clinical Leadership, Clinical Quality Assurance, and Epic Documentation Workgroup meetings to discuss audit findings, corrective actions and uses data to inform strategic decisions and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Leadership Team to review and disseminate updates to medical standards and guidelines.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for affiliate clinicians, registered nurses, center directors, and staff regarding medical protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Contributes to the development and revision of medical forms and patient education materials.
  • Participates in the annual health center site visit process to support quality and compliance.
  • Presents clinical cases and findings to the Peer Review Committee to support continuous learning and quality improvement.
  • Obtains and maintains Epic Clinical Content Builder certification
  • Manages and maintains clinical documentation within the OCHIN Epic DEV environment, including Notes, SmartSets, SmartPhrases, SmartTexts, and Patient Education Sheets, to ensure alignment with current PPFA Medical Standards & Guidelines.
  • Collaborates with program directors and the training team to optimize documentation workflows.
  • Submits and tracks Epic clinical content management tickets through OCHIN Jira, providing regular status updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Reviews and assesses EpicCare Ambulatory change requests, maintains a centralized repository of clinical build requests, delivers timely feedback to requesters, ensures integration into the EHR, and coordinates updates with training initiatives.
  • Revises Epic job aids and communicates documentation updates via email and Hot Flashes.
  • Participates in the ADM-123 process for new clinical initiatives (e.g., medications, labs, and procedures) by submitting Jira tickets for code investigation and collaborating with Clinical Operations, E.H.R. Support, and Revenue Cycle teams for testing as needed.
  • Provides support for grants and special projects as assigned.
  • Engages in agency-wide task forces to advance organizational initiatives.
  • Role-models and champions leadership in the implementation of PPNorCal’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) plan.
