About The Position

The Quality/Safety Director for Surgery and Support Services reports to the System QAPI Director and works collaboratively with the Leadership of Surgical-focused ICCE and Support Service areas across MUSC. Under limited supervision, the Quality/Safety Director provides full support to the QAPI/saf ety program system wide. This includes collecting relevant quality data, analyzing and assessing data, working with relevant stakeholders on disseminating data and information, benchmarking performance and leading multidisciplinary teams to improve performance based on goals. This position collects and presents performance data to relevant oversight and governance groups. This position leads and oversees all QAPI and regulatory/accreditation activities. The Quality/Safety Director also monitors and collates patient safety events in collaboration with the operational and clinical leaders and works with the Risk management department to facilitate event reviews and appropriate after review actions. The Quality and Safety Director is responsible for managing a team, either directly or indirectly, to include associated Quality and Safety Officers, managers, coordinators, data analysts, and registry staff. Surgical-focused ICCE and Support Services include, but are not limited to, the following: Periop/Anesthesia, Surgical Subspecialty and Spine (S3), Musculoskeletal (MSK), Support Services, Telehealth, Pharmacy, Health & Wellness.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited graduate program with a healthcare related master’s degree required with at least 5 years’ experience in working in a healthcare organization quality/safety program
  • Computer/internet skills and familiarity with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) essential.
  • Graduation from an accredited clinical program (RN, MD, PharmD) with a healthcare related master’s degree required.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in quality-related healthcare field.
  • Leadership / management experience required.
  • Computer/internet skills and familiarity with MS office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality or Patient Safety preferred.
  • Experience with LEAN/ Six Sigma and certification in Six Sigma preferred.
  • Experience with Just Culture required, certification preferred.
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred.
  • Experience within the Surgical Specialty Care field is strongly preferred.
  • Certification as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality or Patient Safety and Just Culture preferred.
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma and certification preferred.
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred.
