Quality and Lab Intern
About The Position
The Novelis MMP Spokane team is seeking an Intern for the Quality Team. The person in this role will report to the Quality and Lab Leader. The ideal candidate will be responsible for running samples for OES Check Analysis program, completing global casting consumables material testing, running various equipment in metallurgical and wet chemistry laboratories for different casting, research, and/or plant support projects. This position will contribute to local and global initiatives around aluminum casting, metal quality, efficiency, alloy development, research, investigation, and environmental footprint.
Requirements
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior working towards B.S in Chemistry, Materials Science Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
- Microsoft Office tools
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety and familiarity with balances, glassware, and hazardous chemicals
- Ability to work safely, listen carefully, learn to use a variety of laboratory equipment, and communicate effectively
Nice To Haves
- Hands-on experience in an industrial setting and/or laboratory
- Mechanical aptitude
- Experience in Analytical Chemistry practices
Responsibilities
- Operate Optical Emission Spectrometer machines and software
- Run Check Analysis program
- Perform metallurgical analysis by sectioning, mounting, and polishing samples to run Scanning Electron Microscope or Optical Microscope
- Perform experiments using various types of laboratory equipment (TGA, DSC, XRD, etc.)
- Maintain laboratory space in terms of housekeeping and appearance
- Adhere to company safety absolutes
