About The Position

The Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) Intern is a community-based, mobile individual that observes and learns services that address the individualized mental health needs of clients. Services are directed towards adults, children, adolescents, and families, and will vary with respect to hours, type, and intensity, depending on the changing needs of each client as defined by an active Treatment Plan. The purpose/intent of the QMHS role is to provide specific, measurable, and individualized services to each person served. CPST services should be focused on the individual’s ability to succeed in the community; to identify and access needed services, and to show improvement in school, work and family and integration and contributions within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Initial and ongoing assessment of client needs under supervision.
  • Learning to assist clients in achieving personal independence and managing basic needs as identified by the individual and/or parent or guardian.
  • Facilitation in further development of daily living skills, if identified by the individual and/or parent or guardian.
  • Observes provided services identified in the Treatment Plan.
  • Understanding assistance with accessing natural support systems in the community.
  • Learns about linkage to formal community services/systems.
  • Gathering information on symptom monitoring; side-effect monitoring when client is under pharmacologic care under supervision.
  • Learning the importance of advocacy and outreach.
  • Education and training specific to the individual’s assessed needs, abilities, and readiness to learn, as appropriate.
  • Learning mental health interventions that address symptoms, behaviors, thought processes, etc., that assist an individual in eliminating barriers to seeking or maintaining education and employment.
  • Participates in activities that increase the individual’s capacity to positively impact his/her own environment; and
  • Adhere to and support the mission, purpose of Red Oak.
  • Participates in ongoing training as required by the state, local and organization standard.
  • Worked ambassador for Red Oak in the school and community-based setting.
  • Fundraising activities as assigned.
  • Assists with supplies needed for QMHS interventions and support.
  • Solicit donations from community partners.
