About The Position

The Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) is responsible for ensuring electrical safety and compliance while working in and around energized electrical systems. This role includes observing civil crews operating near energized equipment and conductors, performing safety assessments, and verifying that components, cables, and equipment are safe to work around. The QEW plays a critical role in maintaining safe working conditions and supporting field operations through inspections, observations, and authorization processes.

Requirements

  • Current Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) MUST be able to take NTO’s.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energized electrical systems and electrical safety practices.
  • Experience working around high-voltage or energized electrical equipment and conductors.
  • Ability to understand and implement NTO procedures.
  • Proficiency in performing visual inspections and thermal scans using a heat gun.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify electrical hazards and enforce safe working practices
  • MUST have a journeyman lineman ticket
  • MUST comply with DOT regulations and have a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Qualified Electrical Worker in accordance with applicable safety regulations, standards, and company procedures.
  • Take and execute NTOs (No Test Orders) as required to support field activities.
  • Observe and monitor civil crews working in proximity to energized electrical equipment and conductors to ensure compliance with safe work practices.
  • Conduct visual inspections of electrical components, cables, and equipment prior to and during work activities.
  • Perform thermal inspections using a heat gun to identify potential hazards such as overheating components, abnormal temperature conditions, or compromised equipment.
  • Verify that equipment, conductors, and work areas are safe to work around before authorizing or continuing work.
  • Identify unsafe conditions or practices and take immediate corrective action, including stopping work if necessary.
  • Communicate safety concerns, observations, and findings clearly to supervisors and crews.
  • Document inspections, observations, and safety verifications in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
