Summary The QRP Coder is responsible for obtaining accurate Quality Reporting Program (QRP) scores for all adult and pediatric inpatient admissions and discharges. This scoring will be coded in the patient’s electronic health record for use on the IRF-PAI (Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument)

Requirements

  • High School graduate.
  • Qualified licensed clinician, and/or graduate of an accredited Therapy Assistant Program.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience in an Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Information management skills to communicate, explain, interpret, and present data.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in conjunction with a team of professionals for problem solving.
  • Sense of urgency, collaborative team style, and ability to quickly adapt to changes in priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task and delegate tasks for timely project completion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the organizational mission with a “whatever it takes” attitude to get the job done

Responsibilities

  • Quality Reporting Program (QRP) - Coder Gleans QRP scores from the patient, family, caregiver(s) and /or IRF records to obtain the patients’ QRP codes.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff during patient admission assessment process to assist with identification and capture of correct QRP codes prior to any therapeutic-educational interventions.
  • Interview all inpatients at admission to capture Brief Interview of Mental Status (BIMS) scores and document appropriately into electronic health record according to required time standards established by CMS.
  • Enters the QRP Admission codes in the electronic health record prior to Therapy Evaluations.
  • Enters the QRP Discharge codes in the electronic health record on the day prior to discharge.
  • Serves as a resource in QRP coding requirements by participating and assisting with staff education.
  • Flexes hours to meet the needs of the patients’ requiring QRP coding.
  • Data Collection and data entry of WeeFIM scores for all pediatric patients
  • Under the guidance of the PPS Program Coordinators or the Supervisor of PPS Compliance completes other assigned duties to facilitate the PPS Program.

  • Promotes collaboration within all disciplines within the inpatient rehabilitation unit, and with other departments and institutions.

  • This individual should consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co-workers and deal discretely and sensitively with confidential information.
