About The Position

Lubricates the moving parts of vehicles and performs oil changes and brake work on vehicles.

Requirements

  • One to three months related experience and/or training
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Drains oil from crankcase and refills with required amount of oil.
  • Replaces oil and air filters.
  • Inspects vehicle fluid levels, replaces or replenishes as necessary.
  • Checks tire pressure and adds air if needed.
  • Lubricates moving parts with specified lubricants.
  • Injects grease into units, such as springs, universal joints, and steering knuckles, using hands or compressed-air powered grease gun.
  • Adds water to radiator and battery.
  • Raises vehicle axle.
  • Removes wheels.
  • Replaces defective brake shoe units or attaches new linings to brake shoes.
  • Measures brake drum to determine amount of wear.
  • Inserts vacuum gauge into power-brake cylinder, starts engine, and reads gauge to detect brake-line leaks.
  • Repairs or replaces leaky brake cylinders.
  • Repairs or replaces defective air compressor in air brake systems.
  • Fills master brake cylinder with brake fluid.
  • Replaces wheel on axle and adjusts drum shoe clearance.
  • Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Documents all work performed on the repair order.
  • Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs as assigned by service manager.
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Keeps shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
