About The Position

We are seeking a kind and mindful Qigong and Tai Chi Instructor to join our team, focusing on leading both onsite and virtual classes in San Diego. The ideal candidate will embody a holistic approach to teaching, creating a safe and supportive environment for students. This role emphasizes clear communication, professional boundaries, and a science-based approach to wellbeing.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience teaching Qigong and Tai Chi with an active certification (e.g., CQI, CQT, CTCI).
  • Personal Liability Insurance, adding SDWS as an Additional Insured on the policy by your start date.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Availability to teach onsite classes between 5 - 7pm PST, Tue-Thurs in Mission Valley or Kearny Mesa, San Diego.
  • Ability to teach virtual classes between 6pm - 7pm PST, Mon-Fri.
  • Comfortable teaching bodyweight exercises without equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR certification (or willingness to obtain one by your start date).
  • Proficient in leading virtual classes via Zoom with reliable equipment (laptop, camera, mic).
  • Strong, stable internet connection (100 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload minimum) for virtual teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Lead both virtual and onsite classes, creating an inclusive environment where students feel seen, heard, and encouraged to grow.
  • Guide students through practices with a focus on mindfulness, anatomy, and science, approaching each class with calm and grounded energy.
  • Set and maintain clear professional boundaries with students, fostering respectful and supportive interactions.
  • Communicate any questions or concerns directly with SDWS, not with clients, and uphold a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Respond to confirmation emails the day they are sent and all other communication within 24 hours.
  • Curate a peaceful, distraction-free class atmosphere using instrumental or nature-based music that promotes focus and relaxation.
  • Come to class well-groomed, wearing modest, comfortable attire that's free of logos or personal branding.
  • Ensure a minimal, distraction-free teaching environment, with no visible family photos or personal items in the background.
  • Maintain a secular approach to teaching by using respectful, inclusive language and refraining from spiritual expressions.
  • Refrain from developing personal relationships with students, including sharing personal contact information.
  • Stay organized by submitting required details (invoices, headcounts) in a timely manner.
  • Be open to learning and adhering to onboarding protocols and guidelines.
