About The Position

The QC Tech will work directly with the Hatchery QC/QA Technical Specialist and focus on all aspects of the technical processes and procedures involved in the production of a quality poult and serve as coverage for the Specialist as needed during absences. This would encompass working with the hatchery and transportation teams.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to apply QC principles and practices
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and judgement skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from hatchery manager and supervisor.
  • Proficiency in MS office, MS Excel, and ability to learn and utilize the company database (M-Tech)
  • Must be self-motivated and well organized to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Must have time management skills and be detail orientated
  • Ability to define issues, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to model core values as a representative of the Select Genetics.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with Select Genetics and team members.
  • Valid NC drivers’ license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Report is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of Quality Control experience is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience/education in animal agriculture, veterinary/laboratory technology or poultry preferred.
  • English-Spanish Bilingual skills are a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess poult and egg quality daily with the intention of maintaining and or improving quality
  • Assist Supervisor with animal welfare and ABF training and compliance and any audits that the hatchery may have to go under
  • Assist Supervisor with the bacterial monitoring program for completeness and compliance as well as report the results
  • Conduct hatch residue break out daily and report results and findings
  • Track DOAs and conduct necropsies on DOAs as needed
  • Assist as needed with egg audits and results reports
  • Collect sampling of fluff and other salmonella samples
  • Prepare fluff and environmental salmonella samples to be sent to the MN D Lab
  • Prepare and monitor inventory stock of testing supplies needed for the various programs to include swabs, plates, gloves, or miscellaneous supplies as directed
  • Follow and monitor all company regulations pertaining to bio-security, animal welfare, and safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor or Hatchery Manager in alignment with QC/QA and overall poult quality
  • Work alongside veterinarians, laboratory professionals, and other individuals from the company as needed.
