About The Position

Ensures conformance to industry, company, and customer-specific specifications for untreated and treated material, preservatives, and treating work solutions. The Quality Control Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of preserved wood products. This position is responsible for conducting inspections, identifying nonconformances, and supporting corrective actions throughout the production process, from raw material intake to post-treatment evaluation

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree or at least 2 - 3 years relevant experience in a production environment.
  • Understand governing wood preservation specifications and standards
  • Proficient in QC principles
  • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Must work exceptionally well in team environments and have strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, database software, word processing software, and presentation software.

  • QMS, Engineering, Forest Resources, Business, Operations Management degree a plus.
  • Prior experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Post-Treatment Inspection: Evaluate treated materials for compliance with AWPA, ANSI O5.1, CSA O15, CSA O80, or ASTM D25 and customer-specific requirements. Segregate and mark nonconforming materials for rework or retreatment as needed
  • Nonconformance Management: Identify incidents of nonconformance and communicate to stakeholders. Collaborate with production supervisors to determine disposition—rework, scrap, or escalation. At ISO certified facilities initiate and document nonconformance incidents per the QS-017 Control of Nonconformance protocol.
  • Process Monitoring: Ensure critical treatment steps are being performed including moisture content verification, and sterilization. Ensure adherence to documented procedures in the QC Manual and ISO procedures as applicable.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate inspection logs, assay forms, and reject material records. Ensure traceability of reworked materials.
  • Compliance and Standards: Apply industry standards such as AWPA, ANSI O5.1, CSA O15, CSA O80, and ASTM D25. Follow internal policies and customer specifications as outlined in the QC Manual or ISO procedures as applicable.
  • Testing & Evaluation: Administer field and lab tests, evaluate results, and recommend treatment adjustments.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain and enforce the Corporate Quality Policies and Procedures; oversee quality reports and databases.
  • Process Oversight: QC preservative concentrations, incising, shaving, framing, and other manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Inspection & Certification: Conduct boring, inspection, and chemical analysis of treated charges; issue treating certificates and reports.
  • Calibration: Ensure lab and inspection equipment is appropriately calibrated at recommended compliance intervals.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, analyses, specifications, and correspondence.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with treating supervisors to optimize cycles and solution strengths.
  • Corrective Actions: Initiates corrective actions as necessary, supports root cause analysis, implements actions, and completes effectiveness checks as assigned.
  • Reporting: Complete daily, weekly, and monthly compliance reports for plant leadership.
  • Third-Party Coordination: Manage external quality control inspections.
