Overview: The QC Techs (Mix Chemist) are responsible for sampling, testing, and quality control of all cement products while complying with all applicable MSHA regulations and company policies at all times. Mix Chemists report to the Quality Control Manager or his/her designee. When the Quality Control Manager or his designee are not present, the QC Tech (Mix Chemist) reports to the on-shift Production Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Have a reliable attendance and safety record.
  • Be able to work without constant supervision.
  • Basic math knowledge.
  • The ability to use a computer.
  • Be able to give and take directions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to take and pass Laboratory Pre-Qualification Exam.

Nice To Haves

  • Have a knowledge and understanding of product flow and plant operations.
  • Must have some mechanical and electrical aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Area/workplace examinations of all working areas shall be performed as work begins and documented before end of shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional inspections may be performed as conditions warrant. (i.e. changing weather conditions, operation of mechanical equipment changes, etc.)
  • Workplace examinations must be performed to ensure that the employee and his/her fellow workers have a safe place to work. Workplace examinations must be performed completely; cursory inspections are not adequate.
  • The QC Tech (Mix Chemist) is responsible for addressing and taking corrective actions when capable.
  • If the employee is not capable of repairing an identified deficiency, the employee’s supervisor should be informed immediately so that MCC can initiate action to correct the deficient condition.
  • Performance of corrective actions shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable federal / state regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Performing a complete inspection of assigned work areas to check for any operational and/or mechanical problems with equipment. All identified problems must be reported to the Quality Control Manager and/or on-shift Production Supervisor. Minor mechanical repairs are to be performed by the QC Tech (Mix Chemist). The MCC Supervisor contacted will determine the scope of work and decide if assistance from other departments is required.
  • Examples of minor repairs include but are not limited to:
  • Replacement of broken or missing bolts, screws, hoses and pipe fittings.
  • Repairs of sampling doors, etc.
  • The QC Tech (Mix Chemist) gather samples and performs tests following MCC protocols to determine and ensure a quality product is being produced at all times. The employee is responsible for communicating the results of tests to the Control Room Operator, Shift Supervisor, and/or Quality Control Manager so that necessary changes can be made.
  • Controls raw meal proportioning to achieve targets set by Quality Control Manager.
  • Housekeeping is a responsibility of all QC Tech (Mix Chemist). Clean up of work areas by the QC Tech (Mix Chemist) is to be performed daily to remove slip/trip/fall hazards.
  • Clean-up activities are to be performed daily and not left for other MCC personnel. Major spills may require the assistance of employees from other departments. The determination for housekeeping assistance will be made by the Quality Control Manager or Production Supervisor
  • Performance of housekeeping activities should be consistent between all personnel.
  • Operation of mobile equipment. Proper task training and safe operation guidelines will be adhered to at all times. Employees will not operate any piece of mobile equipment without being properly task trained as required by MSHA regulations.
