The Distribution Center has an opening for a QC Meat/Seafood Specialist. This position is located in Brea, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree preferred in Meat Science, Aquaculture/Fisheries, Food Science, Food Technology or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in food manufacturing or retail meat and/or seafood environment.
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, SOPs, and HACCP.
  • Good management skills and ability to relate to diverse workforce.
  • Must be self-motivated with positive attitude as well as able to handle and address changing priorities.
  • Possess a high degree of initiative and creativity with excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Able to travel and work irregular hours, which may include some weekends, as required.
  • Ability to lift weights of 30 pounds or more.
  • Ability to withstand temperatures of 40 degrees or lower (frozen and perishable warehouses).

Nice To Haves

  • Harvesting, packing, warehouse inspections experience would be beneficial.
  • Retail Meat & Seafood knowledge, and USDA and FDA inspection experience helpful.
  • Basic statistical knowledge helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Audit incoming deliveries for compliance to product specifications and receiving requirements.
  • Document non-compliance and rejections, and inform Procurement, Quality Manager and others as needed.
  • Understand and Verify Seafood HACCP documents and program.
  • Work with Warehouse Management to monitor inventory quality.
  • Understand and Verify COOL Labeling requirements.
  • Proactively work with vendors to assure proper handling that meets Safeway expectations.
  • Assist in Training Warehouse personnel on Seafood HACCP and Receiving requirements.
  • Perform audits or evaluations to assure that Quality standards are being upheld.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team and vendors to continually improve quality.
  • Provide relief coverage for other QC staff as needed.
  • Travel approximately 5%, plus product sampling/pickup at local stores.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
