The QC Lab Technician role primarily involves working in a laboratory environment, with occasional tasks in plant production areas for sample procurement or equipment inspection. The technician is responsible for approving or adjusting products based on visual analysis and spectrophotometer measurements for color comparison against a standard. A strong ability to discern color difference is crucial, and the ideal candidate should be able to pass the Farnsworth/Munsell 100 hue test.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED plus experience that shows high technical aptitude, OR an Associate degree in a science related course of study.
  • Ability to perform all job functions safely and successfully.
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs and / or ladders.
  • Must be able to maintain punctual attendance, have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to tolerate working in dirty, dusty, hot, and cold environments common in a pigment manufacturing facility.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED with 3 years’ experience working in a laboratory.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry related course of study.
  • Experience color matching.
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory setting (professionally or in school).
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong basic math skills, able to solve algebraic problems.

Responsibilities

  • Color evaluation (visual and machine measurement)
  • Adjustment of color based on analysis.
  • Physical attribute testing (mesh residue, loss on drying, Hegman grind, pH, and more)
  • Chemical attribute testing (Fe content by titration, jar testing)
  • Preparation of lab reagents.
  • Routine maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment.
  • Calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Management of product retains.
  • Data entry and analysis.
  • Stocking laboratory consumable items and monitoring stock levels.
  • Sampling raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods.
  • Making recommendations for changes to process equipment based on analysis.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement systems and identify areas for increased efficiency.
