About The Position

Reporting to the Quality Control Department, the Quality Lab Technician plays a pivotal role in executing a range of metal tests using specialized machinery, including lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders. This position encompasses diverse testing methodologies such as Charpy impact, tensile, and chemical tests, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and adherence to established protocols. Additionally, the technician is responsible for maintaining comprehensive records of all testing activities, generating purchase orders for external testing, and performing Rockwell hardness tests as needed. The role requires a meticulous approach to documentation and the flexibility to undertake additional tasks as directed by supervisory personnel. Our Custom Alloy division in High Bridge, NJ, specializes in manufacturing high-quality seamless and welded pipe and tube solutions, as well as custom fabrications for critical applications. We serve government and commercial clients. For government, we work on military and defense contracts requiring precision and reliability. For commercial clients, we provide custom-engineered solutions across various industries. This dual focus allows us to take on diverse, high-pressure projects. Unlike mass production facilities, we create large, custom fittings tailored to specific needs. Our plant features large machines for heavy-duty work in a traditional manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must have experience with lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, belt sanders, and table saws. (basic power tools)
  • Proficiency in basic math and machining techniques.
  • Competence in using precision measurement instruments.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through capabilities, and observational skills.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in quality assurance is advantageous.
  • Relevant training or experience of 2 years may serve as a substitute for formal education.
  • Manufacturing/Industrial metallurgical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, belt sanders, and table saws for machining test samples from raw materials.
  • Conduct Charpy impact, tensile, and chemical tests on various materials.
  • Maintain comprehensive logs and records of all test results.
  • Perform Rockwell B and C hardness tests when required.
  • Generate purchase orders for external testing services.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by supervisory personnel.
