About The Position

The QC Chemist I position at Cayman Chemical involves conducting quality control testing and analytical testing to ensure the quality and conformity of products. The role requires a strong foundation in laboratory techniques and the ability to work independently while adhering to safety protocols. The chemist will be responsible for troubleshooting analytical issues and maintaining laboratory equipment, contributing to the company's mission of advancing human and animal health through research support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in life sciences or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience with a Bachelor's degree, none required with a Master's degree.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and chromatography data systems (Agilent Chemstation and Thermo Chromeleon).
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment and following procedures.
  • Availability to work on-site in Ann Arbor during normal business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct quality control testing, including TLC, IR, UV, melting point, and optical rotation.
  • Perform analytical testing, including HPLC and MS, with increasing independence.
  • Evaluate proton NMR spectra for structure conformity and batch-to-batch comparison.
  • Conduct method development and final product qualifications under minimal supervision.
  • Report all data and/or specification aberrations to management.
  • Troubleshoot analytical issues including performing instrumentation preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with general upkeep of the lab and equipment.
