About The Position

The QA Technician is responsible for monitoring procedures to ensure the food safety and quality of pet food products in compliance with customer specifications, state and federal rules and regulations. This position ensures that products are consistently produced, stored, and shipped in a timely and efficient manner according to Simmons, customer, and regulatory guidelines. The QA Technician conducts and evaluates Critical Control Points (CCPs) and quality checks as identified by the HACCP team, reviews and verifies records for compliance, and initiates the non-conformance process when products do not meet established specifications. The role involves working with the Operations Manager and Production Supervisors to identify root causes and develop preventive actions, acting as the first line of defense for products sent to the Quality Department for further analysis, and being responsible for the facility's hygiene verification. The technician monitors and verifies the cleaning and sanitation program, ensuring compliance during production and shutdown. Additionally, the QA Technician contributes to process training on sanitation and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as needed, assists with audits of the facility, and supports cross-functional teams in audit readiness.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience in Pet/Poultry or Food Processing quality-related field.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing, processing, GMP, and HACCP systems.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills, including basic mechanical skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and crisis management skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and confined spaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous quality assurance/food safety experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably in pet food or poultry processing.
  • Familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support auditing with emphasis on cooking/processing, quality, production, packaging, and shipping areas.
  • Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of team concepts and policies.
  • Help create corrective actions/preventive controls for non-conformities.
  • Assist in mock recalls as required.
  • Monitor and maintain food safety and quality programs and records.
