About The Position

The QA Technician is responsible for monitoring procedures to ensure the food safety and quality of pet food products in compliance with customer specifications, state and federal rules and regulations. This position ensures that products are consistently produced, stored, and shipped in a timely and efficient manner according to Simmons, customer, and regulatory guidelines. The role involves ensuring operational compliance, conducting and evaluating CCPs and quality checks as identified by the HACCP team, and reviewing and verifying records to ensure compliance. The QA Technician initiates the non-conformance process when products do not meet established specifications and collaborates with the Operations Manager and Production Supervisors to identify root causes and develop preventive actions. Additionally, the technician acts as the first line of defense for products sent to the Quality Department for further analysis and is responsible for the facility's hygiene verification, monitoring cleaning and sanitation programs, and verifying hygiene control during production and shutdown.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience in Pet/Poultry or Food Processing quality-related field.
  • Knowledge in food manufacturing, processing, GMP, and HACCP systems.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills, including basic mechanical skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and crisis management skills.
  • Ability to learn and remember codes and perform basic math calculations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous quality assurance/food safety experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably in pet food or poultry processing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with audits of the facility.
  • Support auditing with an emphasis on cooking/processing, quality, production, packaging, and shipping areas.
  • Participate in team meetings and foster team cohesiveness.
  • Assist in mock recalls as required.
  • Monitor and maintain food safety and quality programs and records.
