About The Position

The Quality Assurance Sampling Technician (QAST) is primarily responsible for ensuring that sampling and testing requirements are met at the joint products lines. The QAST will focus on collecting, organizing and analyzing the information collected from the joint products. This role requires the ability to use various types of equipment to analyze samples and accurately determine the types of items being sampled. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets, providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently to decrease accidents and errors and increase profits. The QAST also supports the Company’s Internal Control process, understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls, and suggesting and making modifications to policies, procedures and controls to better relate to the business.

  • All U.S. applicants must be 18 years of age or older and all Canada applicants must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Satisfactory completion of a post-offer drug screen and background check (for U.S. employment).
  • Review and sign an Arbitration Agreement (for U.S. non-union employees).

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED Certification.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role or scrap industry.

Responsibilities

  • Providing a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.
  • Responsible for performing quality control tests of product and waste by measuring and evaluating materials per the SSI/MMRB sampling protocol.
  • Utilizes tools, equipment and instruments to prepare and weigh samples including set up and maintenance.
  • Records and reports on results and maintains the internal computer data base of sampling.
  • Responsible for understanding the nine product streams that must be collected on a daily basis for testing.
  • Oversees and instructs others in the collection and proper labeling of samples, and oversees and instructs others in processing samples when needed.
  • Responsible for interpreting test results, drawing overall conclusions and making recommendations to improve process and desired product quality.
  • Determines anomalies in sample results compared to control charts and identify process issues.
  • Responsible for keeping current on developing technologies used in the sampling process and impacts to the material testing program.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Supports the Company’s Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating and complying with defined internal controls.
  • Suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures and controls to better relate to the business.
  • Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.
