About The Position

Southern Industrial is seeking a local QA/QC Representative for our Raleigh region. Travel in and around the Raleigh area is required as this is a roaming position. The right candidate must have at least one or more of the following certifications: AWS, ACI, AISC or API. Experience with fundamentals of industrial welding, concrete, or electrical construction, able to interpret standard codes, experience with job site inspections and audits, excellent computer skills. Must be analytical and familiar with expository writing styles. Good people skills or perhaps training experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience conducting inspections in the construction industry.
  • Certified Welding Inspector with AWS or similar.
  • Working knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word and Excel).
  • Working knowledge of ASME codes and applications.
  • Strong planning and multitasking skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, flexibility and professionalism.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • PT, MT and UT thickness experience preferred.
  • Bluebeam experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Reports and stops work on all unsafe conditions and acts.
  • Review applicable plans and drawings; has copies as needed during inspections.
  • Reviews and understands requirements of customer specifications and knows where to find them.
  • Knows the material of construction requirements for the inspected items.
  • Understands what the governing construction codes and client specification requirement are for all project activities.
  • Follows all requirements for ASME/NB Code Work; schedules and works with Authorized Inspector.
  • Understands which welding procedures are to be used for various applications.
  • Understands the Inspection and Test plan requirements applicable to the work scope and is able to communicate the witness and hold points to the foreman.
  • Ensures that the WPS's are being adhered to by performing in-process inspections, by monitoring the welders on WPS variable, reporting any deficiencies to foreman or supervisor.
  • Ensures that the welders are qualified for the welding being performed.
  • Maintaining all WPQ's and welder logs.
  • Inspects welds for discontinuities.
  • Indicates if the weld is acceptable or is rejected, marks problem areas and reports any issues to the foreman.
  • Ensures each weld is assigned a number and numbers each weld per project requirements.
  • Document all inspections on the appropriate report or log. Inspections can include any or all of the following: civil/concrete; equipment setting and alignment; insulation; structural (bolting and welding); Piping (bolting and welding).
  • Maintain up-to-date weld maps and weld logs.
  • Ensure that all required NDE's for welds with the project have been performed as required.
  • Monitor and maintain all welders NDE percentage requirements.
  • Perform pressure test and turnover package maintenance.
  • If pressure testing is not required perform a similar piping walk-down and document the examination on project specific forms.
  • Administer weld tests.
  • Other duties as assigned.
