About The Position
ASR is seeking Quality Assurance Specialists/Material Receipt Test Inspectors positions at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS) to provide critical Quality Assurance support. The primary purpose of this role is to perform technical inspections of materials and machined parts procured for use on Naval Nuclear Submarines.
Requirements
- 5+ years in precision measurement, inspection, and technical documentation
- 2+ years inspecting materials per NAVSEA material control standards
- Level 1 (L1) certification experience (fasteners, manifolds, welding commodities, mill products)
- Proficiency with MIL‑STD‑792 marking methods
- OSHA-certified; experience with nuclear-grade material standards
- U.S. Citizenship
- Final DoD Confidential Security Clearance or higher
- Successful completion of PNS onboarding and proficiency checks
Responsibilities
- Inspect machined parts and materials for naval nuclear submarine use
- Perform visual, dimensional, and material identification inspections
- Utilize precision instruments (surface plates, calipers, optical comparators, profilometers, hardness testers, XRF/LIBBS)
- Conduct functional tests (spring rate, flexure, plating thickness, surface finish)
- Document and enter inspection data into PDREP and shipyard systems
- Ensure compliance with NAVSEA, OSHA, and PNS safety/radiological requirements
