About The Position

The Detail Inspector at Pratt & Whitney, a world leader in aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems, supports P&W’s business lines by ensuring engine components are thoroughly examined and inspected after disassembly. This role is crucial for exceeding quality standards, allowing the next phase of overhaul to be completed on the shop floor. The person selected for this position will work on our 2nd shift, which is Monday-Thursday from 3:30pm-1:30am. Training may be conducted on another shift for up to 6 months before transitioning to 2nd shift. To excel in this role, you will need to be someone with a keen attention to detail and be able to prioritize safety and compliance to ensure P&W standards are met. You must have the ability to adjust and manage priorities, have good time management skills, work independently, and adhere to all EH&S policies. Pratt & Whitney in Bridgeport, WV is a FAA regulated facility and as such under the U.S. Departments of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with FAA Guidelines. Candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA’s regulation 14 CFR part 120, as well as 49 CFR part 40.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent plus post High School trades training.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years specialized training in maintenance, assembly or test of gas turbine engines or similar aircraft systems.
  • Powerplant license preferred
  • Prior experience working on P&W Canada engine models.
  • Knowledge of aircraft engine assembly procedures including fits and tolerances, use of precision measuring instruments and gauges, hand tools, special assembly equipment and the ability to work from complicated drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of visual and dimensional inspection operations to inspect parts from a variety of gas turbine engines to ensure serviceability and conformance to specifications.
  • Work from general instructions and specifications such as drawings, service bulletins, repair requests, overhaul manuals and other technical publications to plan and perform a wide range of inspection operations.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspection operations to check parts for dimensional deviations, missing details, mutilation, excessive wear, scoring, pitting, cracks, and other surface irregularities.
  • Use a variety of precision measuring instruments and gauges to perform various dimensional checks such as concentricity, squareness, parallelism, and angular dimensions.
  • Check parts for conformance to latest standards and for proper identification markings.
  • Note deviations from specified tolerances and requirements.
  • Inspect, test, and call up repairs of a variety of engine components and be familiar with the repair limits of subassemblies.
  • Prepare various inspection records noting condition of parts and determine rework or replacement of parts.
  • Report abnormal condition or recurring failure of parts to meet inspection requirements to supervisor.
  • Plan sequence of operations for rework and repair and select best suited tooling.
  • Operate data entry terminal and printer to input and retrieve information required to perform job duties.
  • Supply technical guidance and assist others to overcome technical difficulties.
  • Assist in the training of less senior employees.
  • Comply with all company work rules, follow safe work practices and procedures established to protect the environment, and report to supervisor all unsafe acts, hazardous conditions, and conditions which impact or have the potential to impact the environment.
  • Responsible for reading, understanding, and complying with RTX's Code of Ethics, including the obligation to report actual and suspected violations of the code.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must possess normal dexterity and able to lift and move heavy items
