About the position

The Purchasing Specialist plays a crucial role in the Finance Department of the Golden Acorn Casino & Travel Center. This position is exempt and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The primary responsibility of the Purchasing Specialist is to assist all Casino Department Managers and their staff in procuring goods and services. The goal is to achieve an optimal balance of price, quality, availability, reliability, and service. This role is essential in implementing purchasing strategies and business process improvements that effectively reduce the overall cost of goods and services in the Convenience Store. The Purchasing Specialist will conduct independent research on merchandise, products, and supplies, ensuring effective communication with Department Managers and their staff to understand and comply with business requirements. The position requires the efficient administration of a consistent flow and supply of goods and merchandise, which includes routinely tracking inventory and timely re-ordering. Additionally, the Purchasing Specialist will assist the Accounting Department in the timely and accurate evaluation of Food & Beverage inventory and support all aspects of Casino & Travel Center shipping and receiving operations. This role is dynamic and may expand to include other functional areas of the Casino and Travel Center, making it essential for the Purchasing Specialist to be adaptable and proactive in their approach to procurement and inventory management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Casino Department Managers with the procurement of goods and services.
  • Implement purchasing strategies and business process improvements to reduce costs.
  • Conduct independent research on merchandise, products, and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with Department Managers to understand business requirements.
  • Administer a consistent flow and supply of goods and merchandise.
  • Track inventory and ensure timely re-ordering of supplies.
  • Assist the Accounting Department with the evaluation of Food & Beverage inventory.
  • Support shipping and receiving operations for the Casino & Travel Center.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in a multi-vendor, high volume retail setting with annual sales volume of at least $2 million.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to pass a standardized MS Excel test.
