About The Position

Purchasing Manager is a key member of senior leadership team responsible for key procurement and supply chain management activities to drive reliable, cost efficient and sustainable solutions for North Star BlueScope. This role requires close collaboration with the operations, finance, corporate procurement and IT teams to constantly pursue cost optimization opportunities. Purchasing Manager will manage a team of procurement professionals and will be responsible for continuous mentoring, development and succession planning activities. Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversee all procurement activities related to sourcing key materials, including but not limited to pig iron, alloys, refractories and other from both domestic and international markets. Manage key service contracts related to mill services and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Continuously identify and implement cost reduction opportunities across the procurement process. Collaborate with the operations team to drive operational improvements and enhance supply chain efficiency. Lead and mentor a team of buyers and warehouse staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, excellence and accountability. Participate as a key member of the broader global strategic sourcing team, contributing to the development of procurement strategies. Build, integrate and utilize data analytics to inform procurement strategies and support optimal decision-making. Engage with other members of senior leadership team to align procurement objectives with overall strategic business goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management, with a strong focus on manufacturing.
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of managing diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills, with the ability to leverage data for strategic decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Self-directed, innovative and results driven with strong focus on driving performance across procurement team.
  • Superior writing and presentation skills and demonstrated ability to influence and persuade others.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the steel industry or a similar heavy manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong academic results and relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Engineering or Finance, MBA preferred.
