All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance or sponsorship is provided for the internship program at this time. Position Summary: The Purchasing Intern will support the Devens Purchasing team by assisting with day-to-day procurement activities and gaining exposure to the full purchasing lifecycle. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in supplier communication, transactional purchasing, documentation control, and continuous improvement. The intern will learn how purchasing operations support manufacturing and site operations while contributing to cost-savings initiatives and supplier-related issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the internship
  • Must have completed (at minimum) the sophomore year of college
  • Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program
  • Interest in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Willingness to learn ERP systems (training provided).
  • Analytical mindset and curiosity to identify process improvements or cost‑saving opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Support routine purchasing activities, including processing office-supply orders and assisting with day-to-day requisitions.
  • Learn to write, process, and track Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and understand their role in document control and material updates.
  • Review purchasing data within ERP systems (e.g., pricing, usage, order frequency) to identify opportunities for cost savings or supplier consolidation.
  • Support supplier-related Non-Conformance Material Reports (NCMRs), including gathering evidence, communicating with suppliers, and assisting with investigations.
  • Maintain purchasing files, documentation, and cost-tracking spreadsheets as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Quality, Operations, and Engineering to resolve purchasing-related issues.
