About The Position

The Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement of packaging components and operating supplies required to support Factory6’s contract manufacturing operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring material availability, maintaining continuity of supply, and supporting on-time production through disciplined purchasing, supplier coordination, and cross-functional communication. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage open purchase orders, monitor supplier performance, resolve supply issues, and make sound day-to-day purchasing decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in purchasing, buying, procurement, materials coordination, or supply chain support, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of purchase order management, supplier follow-up, lead times, and material availability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets, Gmail, and ERP or purchasing systems.
  • Ability to identify supply risks, escalate issues appropriately, and support timely resolution.
  • Strong sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments and build productive supplier relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in contract manufacturing, nutraceuticals, dietary supplements, food, beverage, pharmaceuticals, or another regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, inventory transactions, and planning signals.
  • Understanding of approved vendor programs, material specifications, and supplier performance management.
  • Experience with quote comparisons, supplier negotiations, or cost-improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Procure packaging components and indirect supplies needed to support production schedules and business operations.
  • Create, issue, and manage purchase orders in line with production demand, inventory requirements, lead times, and planning priorities.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up with suppliers to confirm pricing, quantities, ship dates, and delivery status.
  • Communicate material risks, shortages, delays, and supply concerns to internal stakeholders in a timely and solution-oriented manner.
  • Partner closely with Project Management, Production, Warehouse, Quality, and Operations to ensure materials are available to support on-time and efficient manufacturing.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, pricing, lead times, and order status within ERP and related systems.
  • Support inventory management efforts by balancing material availability with the risk of excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Assist in identifying and qualifying alternative supply options when needed to reduce risk or address shortages.
  • Resolve supplier-related issues involving late deliveries, damaged goods, incorrect shipments, or quantity discrepancies.
  • Ensure purchased materials align with approved specifications, operational requirements, and internal processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of supply chain and business needs.
