About The Position

The Warehouse Purchasing Agent coordinates activities involving procuring goods and services such as materials, equipment, tools, parts and supplies for the Smithfield Hog Production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business Administration, Supply Chain/Logistics or related field and 2+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Quick learner with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain focus, and adapt to a variety of challenges.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong sense of time organization and urgency.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Current Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Some overnight travel.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops appropriate supply chain strategy to maximize satisfaction at the best value and best possible cost.
  • Coordinates with the supply chain team in executing best practices and measuring performance through agreed upon Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Directs and coordinates global supply chain functions through strategy, resource optimization, profitability maximization, and KPIs resulting in the maximization of customer satisfaction.
  • Plans, manages, and coordinates all activities related to the sourcing and procurement of necessary materials and supplies needed to meet the changing levels of product demand.
  • Works with nine warehouses, and logistics departments to determine and set up intercompany transfers.
  • Works directly with Warehouse Teams to determine most cost-effective distribution solution for finished goods transportation.
  • Monitors and corrects inventory levels at outside warehouses and internally to ensure rotation and maximize working capital.
  • Works with freight forwards and transportation companies to set best route and rate (reviews and approves all freight terms and agreements).
  • Collaborates with procurement departments to determine best practice for freight in and freight consolidation.
  • Member of the Procurement Teams, responsible for routinely reporting on department KPIs, along with appropriate analysis and countermeasures where necessary.
