Transportation - Purchasing Agent
About The Position
At Transportation Resource Management (TCI) , our purchasing team sits at the intersection of operations, finance, and strategy . We’re looking for a Purchasing Agent who combines hands-on parts knowledge with strong analytical and procurement expertise —someone who understands truck and mechanical parts and knows how to manage spend, analyze cost, and negotiate supplier pricing. Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or inventory management
- Proven experience with: Cost and purchase analysis, ERP-based purchasing systems, Category management and spend tracking, RFQs/RFPs and supplier price negotiations
- Hands-on purchasing experience with: Truck and trailer parts, Mechanical and maintenance components, Building maintenance and facility products, Shop tools and equipment
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently
- A collaborative, ethical, and service-oriented mindset
Nice To Haves
- Prior MRO and/or heavy equipment procurement experience strongly preferred
- Undergraduate degree preferred (or equivalent professional experience)
- Coupa experience a plus
Responsibilities
- Source and procure truck parts, mechanical components, MRO items, building maintenance products, shop tools, Office support services, IT products and services, direct and indirect procurement for the company
- Manage inventory levels and purchasing strategies to balance availability, cost, and service levels
- Track and manage category spend , supplier performance, and pricing trends
- Identify preferred suppliers and parts based on usage history, cost analysis, availability, and reliability
- Perform purchase and cost analysis to identify savings opportunities and support decision-making
- Assemble, issue, and evaluate RFQs/RFPs for parts, materials, equipment, and services
- Lead and support price negotiations with suppliers to improve total cost of ownership
- Analyze supplier pricing, contracts, and spend data to support category strategies and budgeting
- Work within ERP and purchasing systems to process purchase orders and requisitions accurately and on time
- Maintain clean, accurate purchasing, pricing, and supplier data within ERP platforms (Coupa experience a plus)
- Support reporting on purchasing activity, spend, cost trends, and supplier performance
- Participate in process improvement and data analytics initiatives that improve profitability and purchasing effectiveness
- Partner with operations, maintenance, facilities, finance, and service teams to understand demand and priorities
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements
- Maintain accurate documentation for purchases, contracts, pricing, and supplier performance
- Present purchasing insights and recommendations to leadership as needed
