About The Position

Redwood Credit Union is seeking a Purchasing Agent who will plan, organize and direct the centralized purchasing activities of Redwood Credit Union. This position assists in establishing policies and procedures for the procurement of supplies, materials, equipment, and professional services. Manage the day-to-day operations of central purchasing, using an automated purchasing system, while performing purchasing services in specialized commodity areas, and assisting in the planning and organizing of purchasing activities. Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of modern purchasing policies and procedures including ethics and standards of purchasing practices, inventory standards and controls, quality control and value analysis techniques in evaluating vendor capacity, capability and performance.
  • Skill in working with automated purchasing systems and office automating applications.
  • Experienced in bid preparation, solicitation, award and evaluation to assure economics of price, standardization of specification, competitive bidding, contract negotiations, and penalty procedure for noncompliance.
  • Experience with accounting and budgetary controls, statistical analysis and market research techniques
  • Must possess data collection techniques for establishing sources of supply, product and vendor information.
  • Ability to analyze requisitions and prepare product specifications and contracts; evaluate bids and make awards impartially and objectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with RCU departments, team members, and outside sales representatives.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and develop an effective course of action.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and directed.
  • The ideal candidate has a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of purchasing experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), Certified Professional Supply Manager (C.P.S.M.), Certified Professional Public Buyer (C.P.P.B.) or Certified Public Purchasing Officer (C.P.P.O.) or equivalent procurement certification is a plus.
  • Prior purchasing experience in a private sector environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend, establish and direct programs, policies, and procedures for the procurement of supplies, materials, equipment, and minor construction and professional services.
  • Analyze performance and workload data to develop and implement procedural changes, new methods, or automated systems as appropriate, to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness of purchasing services.
  • Monitor the delegated purchasing authority granted to department representatives.
  • Confer with RCU department heads to determine purchasing needs and legal requirements and advise of current technologies and procurement methodologies.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints from departments about products and services and from vendors regarding bid protests and contract awards.
  • Contract for professional services within the monetary limits established by RCU.
  • Coordinate the identification, distribution and disposal of surplus RCU property and dispose of it when authorized.
  • Prepare written reports and maintain records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
