About The Position

Madden Industrial Craftsmen seeking an experienced Pump Technician with strong machining skills for our client's shop team in what could quickly become a lead role. This is a long-term position for someone who understands pumps AND can machine precision components. You'll be instrumental in bringing their new machining operation online. This position combines pump repair expertise with advanced machining capabilities to manufacture wear rings, shaft sleeves, bushings, and other critical components in-house.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with pump repair, teardown, and rebuild.
  • Strong machining background with proven ability to work to tolerances of .001" (thousandths)
  • Hands-on experience operating lathes, mills, and precision machining equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.)
  • Supporting the field team on projects, both local and on the road, as needed.
  • Rigging skills for safely moving and positioning heavy equipment
  • Millwright welding and fabrication capabilities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to write clear, detailed technical reports
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Valid driver's license with clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Ability to pass background check and pre-employment physical
  • Comfortable with occasional travel to customer sites when needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience machining pump components (wear rings, shaft sleeves, bushings)
  • Familiarity with municipal water/wastewater pump systems
  • Previous experience helping set up or equip a machine shop
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and material selection for pump applications
  • CNC machining experience
  • Leadership or mentoring experience
  • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Lead the teardown, inspection, and complete rebuild of pumps in our expanding shop facility
  • Take precise measurements using micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments
  • Operate and eventually help select new machining equipment including lathes and mills
  • Machine precision pump components to tight tolerances (thousandths of an inch)
  • Manufacture replacement parts including wear rings, shaft sleeves, bushings, and custom shafts
  • Read and interpret technical blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Write detailed reports documenting pump conditions, problems identified, and repairs needed
  • Perform millwright welding and fabrication work as needed
  • Apply rigging skills for handling large pumps and equipment safely
  • Occasional field visits to customer sites for assessments, rigging, and specialized work
  • Maintain quality control standards and ensure all work meets specifications
  • Mentor and train others as our team grows
  • Help establish shop processes and standards as we expand our capabilities
