About The Position

This recruitment will be used to build an Eligibility List for the following locations: Eagle Mountain (Desert Center, CA), Hinds (Desert Center, CA), Iron Mountain (Earp, CA), Gene Camp (Parker Dam, CA), and Intake (Parker Dam, CA). This list will be valid for 6 months from the date a candidate accepts the position. The Metropolitan Water District's Conveyance & Distribution Group has two openings for Pump Plant Maintenance Operator I. Two (2) positions are located at Iron Mountain Pumping Plant. The Pump Plant Maintenance Operator I position is an intermediate-level role responsible for carrying out operational activities at the desert pumping plants. Key duties include implementing water flow adjustments, monitoring and inspecting equipment, and assisting with maintenance tasks. Additional responsibilities involve operating, maintaining, and testing domestic water systems within both the pumping facilities and associated residential areas. The position also performs water quality analyses for distribution and drinking water systems, supports system shutdowns, and conducts high voltage switching. Further duties include starting and stopping main pumping units and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all assigned systems. Expectations of Hours of Service, Emergency and Stand-by Service: Employees in this position may be required to work off-shift hours and/or stand-by services to address operational needs and emergencies as required. May be required to work extended periods away from the normal reporting location. This position is eligible to rent Metropolitan Water District housing. The Incentive Pay program will be setup to provide a Desert Branch Assignment Premium to qualifying employees as follows: 5% for all employees assigned to Gene Camp or Intake. 15% for all employees assigned to Hinds Pumping Plant, Eagle Mountain, or Iron Mountain. Requirements

  • High school diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate
  • 2 years’ experience as demonstrated by practical application of general and advanced techniques and practices specific to the operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical/low voltage electrical systems in a treatment or pump plant, power generation system, and related facilities
  • California Department of Public Health Water Treatment Operator Certification Grade II
  • Metropolitan High Voltage Switching Certification (Must be obtained within 1 year of entry into position)
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) from state of residency that allows you to drive during your employment
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
