About The Position

The Pump Mechanic is responsible for performing precision disassembly, inspection, repair, overhaul, and assembly of industrial and process pumps within the Company’s repair facility. This position plays a critical role in delivering OEM-level quality, reliability, and turnaround performance consistent with FOX’s standards. This role requires a highly skilled, hands-on technician with deep knowledge of centrifugal and process pump repair, close-tolerance assembly, and mechanical troubleshooting. The Pump Mechanic works collaboratively with the Pump Shop Supervisor, Engineering, Quality, and Planning teams to ensure jobs are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer scope and OEM specifications. This is a shop-based position. No field service travel is required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational training in machining, mechanical repair, or turbomachinery preferred.
  • Minimum four (4) years of hands-on industrial pump repair experience.
  • In-depth understanding of centrifugal and API process pump design and repair.
  • Strong knowledge of precision measurement and close-tolerance mechanical assembly.
  • Proficiency in using micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, calipers, depth gauges, and alignment tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints, OEM specifications, and interpret GD&T.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability.
  • Self-directed and capable of managing repair jobs from start to finish with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete teardown of centrifugal, multistage, vertical, horizontal, API process, and specialty pumps.
  • Conduct detailed visual and dimensional inspections of all components.
  • Measure and document critical fits, clearances, concentricity, and runout using precision instruments.
  • Identify damage mechanisms and assist in root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Develop clear repair recommendations aligned with OEM standards and engineering direction.
  • Repair or replace components including shafts, sleeves, impellers, bearings, seals, wear rings, bushings, and couplings.
  • Coordinate with the machine shop regarding machining, welding, balancing, and specialty repair requirements.
  • Execute close-tolerance assembly in accordance with OEM specifications and company procedures.
  • Verify alignment, bearing fits, seal installation, and critical dimensional requirements prior to final assembly.
  • Prepare equipment for hydrostatic or performance testing as required.
  • Accurately complete job travelers, inspection reports, measurement records, and repair documentation.
  • Review engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and OEM manuals to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure all repairs meet internal quality standards and customer performance expectations.
  • Support QA/QC inspections and participate in pre- and post-repair reviews as required.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop area consistent with lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
  • Promote and adhere to company safety policies and OSHA standards.
  • Demonstrate strong safety awareness when operating lifting equipment, rotating machinery, and shop tools.
  • Maintain compliance with all repair procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Work overtime as required to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
