Based on performance and business needs, there is potential for the role to transition into a regular Hale employee position. POSTION SUMMARY Builds and assembles fire pumps using mechanical tools, follows blueprints and procedures, troubleshoots and repairs issues, performs testing, and ensures all products meet quality and safety standards. Maintains equipment and a clean work area, documents work, and handles physical tasks.

Requirements

  • Ability to read tape measure in both standard and metric scales.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to document individual work orders.
  • Ability to speak effectively to co-workers, supervisor, and other departments to clarify work orders and blueprints.
  • At least 6 months of experience of light industrial or mechanical assembly.
  • At least 6 months of experience using a variety of hand, air, hydraulic, and testing tooling and equipment.
  • Prior mechanical assembly experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic assembly, fitting and wiring as necessary to build a wide range of sub-assemblies and finished product.
  • Build to detailed procedures, cross sections or from general instructions and acceptable mechanical practices.
  • Able to repair and troubleshoot when required.
  • Capable of using sound mechanical judgment to independently install components with limited instruction.
  • Use of a variety of hand, air, hydraulic, and testing tooling and equipment.
  • Able to read and understand torque values and procedures.
  • Report supply needs in a timely manner assuring required supply levels are maintained.
  • Report any safety and maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Install components required to inspect products. This involves operations such as connecting, aligning, pressing, fitting, setting, and adjusting for proper clearance using any tools required to attain alignment, fits, clearances and specifications as required.
  • Remove test components from all types of pumps as required.
  • Transport products and other equipment to designated work area.
  • Must display an attention to detail attitude.
  • Detect and correct errors.
  • Make repairs and adjustments as required to pass inspection.
  • Clean and make minor repairs to assembly equipment.
  • Store and place in proper locations all items required to assure the assembly area is free of accumulated clutter, clean, and is in orderly condition.
  • Consistently produce work of proper quality and required quantity.
  • Utilize time during assembly process to perform other duties within this job description.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform routine maintenance on assembly and test equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned.
