About The Position

The Pulp Process Manager plays a critical role in leading and optimizing the pulp production operations at Suzano’s Pine Bluff, Arkansas facility. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations across all pulp mill areas, including the Woodyard, Chip Mill, Recaust Area, Batch Digesters, Brown Stock Washers, Bleach Plant, and ClO₂ Generator. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background in pulping and bleaching processes, combined with proven leadership experience managing hourly teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires close collaboration with Maintenance, Environmental, and Operational teams to achieve safety, quality, and production goals while promoting a high-performance culture aligned with Suzano’s values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical), Pulp & Paper Science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of pulp mill experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong technical expertise in the pulping and bleaching process, including woodyard, recaust, batch digesters, brown stock washing, and bleach plant systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and mentor team members to promote engagement and continuous improvement.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS systems (SAP experience a plus).
  • Willingness to work variable shifts and adapt to changing operational priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations across all pulp mill areas, ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and production efficiency.
  • Supervise up to 30 hourly employees per shift, managing attendance, training, vacation schedules, and discipline when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental and safety systems, promoting a culture of zero incidents.
  • Troubleshoot process upsets quickly and effectively using in-depth knowledge of the pulping and bleaching processes.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and instrumentation teams to prioritize and address mechanical or electrical issues.
  • Analyze production data to identify opportunities for improvement in yield, uptime, and chemical usage.
  • Manage costs responsibly, ensuring resources are optimized and department goals are achieved.
  • Foster strong communication across teams and shifts, ensuring alignment and consistent performance expectations.
  • Support process improvement and digital upskilling initiatives in collaboration with Engineering and Operations.
