About The Position

The Physician, Pulmonologist examines, diagnoses, and treats patients with pulmonology and sleep disorders or diagnoses of in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The position manages patients in both the impatient and outpatient settings.  The Physician collaborates with other medical professionals including, but not limited to:  Nurse Practitioners, Physician’s Assistants, Respiratory Therapist, Sleep technicians, Clinical Assistants, Medical Assistants, Clerical, and administrative staff. The physician is responsible for developing the plan of care for both in and outpatients on service, completing consultations, facilitating discharges, and participating in transitions of care. Pulmonology is a consulting service in the hospital.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Board certified or eligible in Pulmonary Disease
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Current medical license in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Current DEA Certification
  • Certification by the American Board of Pain Medicine, or board eligible through American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Osteopathic Association Board of Pulmonary Disease or equivalent Medical Specialty Board
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the America Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.

Nice To Haves

  • Board certified or eligible in Sleep Medicine (not required)
  • Two (2) to Four (4) years’ experience in pulmonary and medicine.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in sleep medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Exam, diagnosis and treat patients with pulmonary and sleep disorders in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Uses telemedicine as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Physician Providers (APP) for initial and follow-up care needs of the patient.
  • Collaborate with the medical specialist to care for hospitalized and out patients with pulmonary and sleep disorders.
  • Refer patients to medical specialists, social services, or other professionals as appropriate.
  • Performs bronchoscopy (not required) while adhering to regulator, ethical and procedural standards and infection control practices.
  • Completes consultations on hospitalized patients.
  • Completes discharge summaries for patients on service and/or actively participate in discharge planning.
  • Communicates with patients' primary care physicians upon hospital discharge to maintain continuity and quality of care.
  • Prescribes medications or treatment regimens as appropriate, including ordering of durable medical equipment.
  • Orders and interprets the results of tests such as laboratory tests and radiography (x-rays), and advanced imaging.
  • Orders and interprets pulmonary function studies.
  • Interprets timely in-lab and home sleep studies according to policy (if board certified in sleep medicine)
  • Collaborates with the Respiratory Therapist to provide appropriate care and interventions.
  • Collaborates with the Sleep Lab and staff to complete patient testing.
  • Performs standard office duties.
  • Active participant in the Department of Pulmonology, including attending Department meetings.
  • Participate in Independence Health Medical Group meetings, Leadership meetings and Physician committees upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned.
