About The Position

The Hospital Laboratory Technicians performs or supervises the performance of a wide variety of technical procedures in a hospital laboratory and perform other related duties as required. The Hospital Laboratory Technician performs both pulmonary function tests on patients and assists in various bronchoscopy procedures. These tests are used to diagnose and manage disease in patients. Pulmonary Function The major portion of the duties of the Pulmonary Function Technician includes instructing and properly coaching patients to perform effort dependent breathing tests, independently and under minimal supervision. The Pulmonary Function Technician must learn all of the various measurements of lung function in order to generate reproducible and accurate results. An important factor required to perform the testing is the ability to fully understand the technical aspects of the equipment, as well as comprehend various hardware and software applications. Following a variety of detail-specific protocols is critical to the success of this position. Bronchoscopy The Bronchoscopy Service is an administrative unit in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division. It provides the equipment, supplies, and trained technical personnel to assist the Pulmonary Attending Physicians when they perform bronchoscopies. These procedures may be conducted as part of the clinical evaluation and/or treatment of patients seen on the Pulmonary Consult Service, Chest Clinic, or from the Pulmonary Outpatient Diagnostic Service. The service also provides training for medical residents and Pulmonary Fellows during their rotations in the ICU and Consult Service at ZSFGH. The candidate will also perform other related duties. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $37.74 - $47.11 (Hourly Rate). Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Biological Sciences or another applicable natural science major; or two years of college courses in the natural sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with the Internet and e-mail
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to follow through on a variety of projects simultaneously and operate with some degree of autonomy.
  • Reliable attendance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 2010 for Windows (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel).
