About The Position

The Pulmonary Function Lab Manager assumes the daily organizational management of the Pediatric Diagnostic Operations within our multi-site Pulmonary service line. This leadership role is responsible for supervising a team of Pulmonary Function Technicians (PFT), ensuring clinical quality and regulatory compliance, coordinating diagnostic services across multiple sites of care, and supporting service line growth initiatives. The Pulmonary Function Lab Manager plays a critical role in the accurate and safe execution of pulmonary function testing, team leadership, clinical research, operational efficiency, and patient-centered care. The incumbent collaborates with clinical leaders and interdisciplinary teams across locations and ensures alignment with strategic and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years hospital-based or pediatric PFT experience; RRT experience in research and understanding of patient population.
  • At least 2 years managing multi-site operations or vendor relationships.
  • At least 2-5 years leadership experience preferred.
  • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience in Respiratory Therapy.
  • RRT- Registered Respiratory Therapist credentialed through the NBRC Upon Hire.
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) Upon Hire.
  • Texas state licensure as Respiratory Therapist Upon Hire.
  • PACES 180 Days Upon Hire.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Upon Hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate PFT technicians across inpatient and outpatient pediatric care sites.
  • Conduct annual performance and competency assessments to ensure adherence to standards and ongoing development.
  • Develop staffing models and scheduling processes to ensure adequate coverage across multiple locations.
  • Oversee the day-to-day functions of PFT labs at Dallas, Plano, and satellite clinics.
  • Ensure proper execution and standardization of spirometry, lung volumes (plethysmography), DLCO, and bronchoprovocation testing.
  • Maintain equipment functionality and calibration records; troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Collaborate with research teams to support and facilitate clinical research activities within the PFT labs.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in Epic and timely provider communication.
  • Maintain compliance with ATS, CMS, Joint Commission, HIPAA, and infection prevention standards.
  • Develop, review, and enforce PFT lab standard operating policies and procedures.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors providing diagnostic equipment, maintenance, calibration, or contracted testing services.
  • Ensure vendor adherence to contractual terms and clinical safety standards.
  • Monitor vendor performance through KPIs, satisfaction metrics, and incident tracking.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Clinical Engineering, and IT to manage equipment lifecycles, service tickets, and software integrations.
  • Collaborate with pulmonologists, respiratory therapy, and administrative leadership to ensure alignment of lab services with clinical workflows.
  • Support pulmonary service line expansion through resource planning, capacity modeling, and performance analytics.
  • Participate in long-range planning for diagnostic service enhancements and capital investment proposals.
  • Track and analyze lab performance metrics such as test accuracy, throughput, technician productivity, and patient satisfaction.
  • Lead quality improvement and accreditation readiness initiatives.
  • Facilitate staff huddles, team meetings, and cross-functional communication to foster continuous improvement.
