The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting for a full-time Assistant, Associate or Full Professor WOT (without tenure due to funding) in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine. The specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is based at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and employment is paid directly by the VA. UW faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Clinical responsibilities will include both inpatient and outpatient activities at the VA Puget Sound, involving working with and teaching trainees. Clinical work will encompass attending on the medical intensive care unit and pulmonary consultation service, and outpatient pulmonary clinic. VAPSHCS is a Level 1a major interdisciplinary teaching healthcare system, considered the most complex VA healthcare system nationwide, offering Emergency services and a full complement of specialty medical, surgical, psychiatric, critical care, and rehabilitation service-lines, including a lung transplant program. Time allocated to clinical work will be commensurate with the academic track; physician-scientists are expected to dedicate 25% FTE or more to clinical duties, depending on grant funding for protected research time. Administrative responsibilities may include medical directorship of various pulmonary critical care programs. The selected candidate is expected to have a research program aligned with the VA's mission to improve Veteran health and healthcare, and to participate in mentoring physician-scientists and other trainees. Successful health services researchers would be eligible to become an investigator in the Seattle-Denver Center of Innovation for Veteran-Centered and Value-Driven Care (COIN). Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments (July 1–June 30), while Associate and full professors WOT hold indefinite appointments (July 1-June 30). The successful candidate will be a VA staff physician with a faculty appointment at UW. The anticipated start date is August 2026 or later. This position is paid directly by VAPSHCS and receives no UW compensation.
