Under general supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, supervises work crews performing field assignments throughout the city over the maintenance, repairs and operation of traffic signals, and school zone flashers. Plans, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects, monitors work, develops staff skill and evaluates performance, provides technical guidance, assistance and training, meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues, develops work plans and assures required deadlines are met. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Supervises staff; plans, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; monitors work; develops staff skills and evaluates performance; provides technical guidance, assistance and training regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues; develops work plans and assures required deadlines are met; reviews and verifies the accuracy and efficiency of work activities. Oversees preventive maintenance and repair programs for traffic signal field work. Monitors the work of field crews to ensure safety practices are followed and whether necessary materials, supplies and equipment to perform their work projects. Ensures work crews follow appropriate safety procedures and wear safety protection gear. Prepares various documentation regarding field operations; forwards completed documentation to the Superintendent for review. Conducts field inspections to identify obstructions that are blocking the view of traffic signals. Reviews completed work orders from work crews to ensure work projects are completed efficiently. Coordinates field operations during special events and participates in special events planning. Responsible for directing the Assistant Special Event Field Coordinator. May be required to investigate issues related to other divisions as a first responder until the needed division arrives. Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
