About The Position

The Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II position in the Streets Division of Galt, CA, involves performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of city infrastructure, including streets, traffic controls, and water and wastewater systems. Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of construction, maintenance, or repair experience for Public Works Maintenance Worker I.
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years of semi-skilled construction, maintenance, or repair experience for Public Works Maintenance Worker II.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license and satisfactory driving record for Public Works Maintenance Worker I.
  • Possession of a valid Class B California driver's license with airbrakes and tanker endorsements for Public Works Maintenance Worker II.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid Class A California driver's license with airbrakes and tanker endorsement.
  • Possession of various certifications such as Backflow Device Tester Certification, Traffic Control Technician Certification, and Water Distribution System Operator Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, maintenance, and construction of streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage structures.
  • Operate specialized vehicles and a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment related to maintenance and repair.
  • Inspect and perform service, minor maintenance, and repairs on hand and power tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Maintain logs and records of work performed and materials used.
  • Contact residents and businesses to inform them of work to be performed.
  • Assist with the training and direction of new or temporary staff.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
