About The Position

The Public Services Apprentice position at the City of High Point is an entry-level role designed for individuals to gain hands-on experience in laboratory testing methods for analyzing water, wastewater, stormwater, and industrial wastewater samples. The apprentice will work under the supervision of a laboratory analyst, engaging in routine professional work that involves various chemical, physical, biological, and bacteriological analyses to ensure the efficiency of treatment processes and compliance with safety standards.

Requirements

• Entry-level position requiring a Wastewater Certification.
• Basic understanding of laboratory testing methods and procedures.
• Ability to perform chemical, physical, and biological analyses.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory analysis of water, wastewater, and industrial samples under supervision.
• Collect random water and wastewater samples from various locations in High Point.
• Conduct regular and special chemical analyses of samples to determine treatment efficiency and chemical constituents.
• Perform physical, chemical, and biological analyses including pH, titrimetric, colorimetric, electrochemical, and bacteriological tests.
• Conduct field analyses using field meters as needed.
• Set up automatic samplers and collect wastewater compliance samples from Industrial Users.
• Investigate spills and perform Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) inspections.
• Compile data and prepare and maintain records and reports.
• Respond to water problem complaints from citizens, collect samples, perform analyses, and notify citizens of results.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
