About The Position

As the Agency Information Security Officer, you will serve as the trusted security advisor for Maine’s executive agencies, guiding leadership decisions, shaping strategy, and safeguarding operations. You will lead a team of skilled information security professionals and contractors dedicated to protecting the State’s systems, data, and mission-critical services. Partnering closely with agency leaders and MaineIT divisions, you will identify and mitigate risks, strengthen defenses, and ensure compliance across a complex and evolving environment. Through your leadership, you will foster collaboration, accountability, and professional growth, helping agencies operate securely and confidently in today’s threat landscape. Reporting to the State’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), you will play a key role in advancing Maine’s enterprise security strategy and uniting agencies under a shared vision of cyber resilience. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field (four years of direct information security consulting experience may substitute for the degree)
  • Self-motivated leader with 5–7 years of experience leading information security initiatives and cross-functional goal achievement
  • Expertise working with NIST Security and Privacy Controls for Information Systems and Organizations

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Mentor: Guide and develop a growing team of Agency Information Security Officers, fostering professional growth, accountability, and alignment with enterprise security objectives.
  • Partner with Agencies: Collaborate with agency leadership and MaineIT to strengthen the State’s overall security posture through effective communication, shared goals, and proactive risk management.
  • Exercise Independent Judgment: Make informed, strategic decisions on complex information security matters involving agency operations, technology resources, policies, and inter-agency coordination.
  • Collaborate Across Divisions: Work with other sections of the Information Security Office to advance the State of Maine Information Security Program Plan and promote consistent, enterprise-wide security practices.
  • Align Security with Business Goals: Engage with diverse stakeholders to integrate security priorities with business objectives, ensuring that operational needs and risk management remain in balance.
  • Drive Issue Resolution: Serve as the central point for escalation and resolution of cybersecurity issues, ensuring timely response, effective coordination, and continuous improvement across the State’s security environment.
