About The Position

The Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) serves as a critical link between the public and emergency services, answering 911 and non-emergency calls, and dispatching law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. This role requires quick decision-making, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-stress environment, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must acquire State of Minnesota Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) certification within six months of hire.
• Completion of a finger-printed background investigation is required.
• Successful completion of a multi-tasking skills test and pre-employment screening evaluation.

Nice To Haves

• A degree in Communications, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
• One year of experience in communications operations, preferably as a call taker or dispatcher.
• Experience with PC keyboarding and multi-tasking skills.
• State of Minnesota Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) certification.
• Experience speaking and understanding additional languages.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls and interpret information from callers.
• Determine the nature, location, priority, and correct course of action for each call.
• Direct requests for assistance to the appropriate law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical service agency.
• Maintain status updates and monitor the safety of emergency personnel during incidents.
• Dispatch appropriate equipment as required and operate various communication systems.
• Input and query data through local, state, and federal computer systems for wanted persons and vehicles.
• Conduct driver's license and motor vehicle checks as requested.
