About The Position

This position is open to Alaskan Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify. This position is being recruited for in multiple locations- Petersburg, Ketchikan, Wrangell, and Prince of Whales. Depending on the location of the successful applicant will determine when the position will be filled. Under the general supervision of an Alaska Wildlife Trooper, performs technical level work in the prevention and detection of violations and the enforcement of laws and regulations. In addition, this position performs semi-skilled work, frequently in remote field locations, to ensure that mobile facilities and transportation equipment are operational. Requirements

  • Eighteen years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED at the time of employment.
  • Must have a current, valid Alaska Driver's License at time of employment.
  • Ability to lift and carry loads weighing up to 70 pounds over rough or uneven surfaces.
  • Must pass a physical examination to determine the ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Background investigation, including a criminal record check for conviction of felony or misdemeanor crimes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing patrol and surveillance duties and identifying, recording violations, and documenting criminal activity.
  • Field experience involving fish or wildlife management, habitat protection.
  • Experience as a commercial fisher, licensed hunting or registered sport fishing guide.
  • Qualifying military experience that involved working outdoors in inclement weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical level work in the prevention and detection of violations and the enforcement of laws and regulations.
  • Perform semi-skilled work in remote field locations to ensure that mobile facilities and transportation equipment are operational.
  • Set up camp independently in wilderness situations.
  • Use hazardous equipment such as firearms and chain saws.
  • Operate boats more than 24 feet in length.
  • Perform vessel and off-road vehicle maintenance.
  • Spend long periods of time in close quarters while at sea on vessels between 29-156 feet in length.
